Venjah Hunte, one of five suspects charged in the killing of
Washington Redskins star Sean Taylor has pleaded guilty at the charges of
second-degree murder and burglary. Hunte allegedly drove the 4 men from Ft. Myers to
Palmetto Bay
in November, 2007, to Taylor's
home where they planned to rob him.
According to the Associated Press, he was sentenced to 29
years in prison. His lawyer, Michael Hornung, said that his client pleaded
guilty on Friday but prosecutors requested that, seeing the investigators were
after the fifth suspect, the plea agreement should be sealed. Hunte agreed to
testify against the other suspects, as part of the deal.
Officials managed to find that last suspect, 16-year-old
Timothy Brown, and charged him on Wednesday with first-degree murder and armed
burglary.
According to the Washington Post, Richard Sharpstein, a Florida lawyer and Taylor
family spokesperson, said the family thought the sentence was satisfying. He
also said that Sean Taylor’s family hopes that each suspect “faces the most
severe, harshest punishment they can receive.”
Jason Mitchell, Eric Rivera and Charles Wardlow are the
other three charged in the case. The trial is set for Aug. 25.
Sean Taylor was shot at his Miami home, during a robbery,
and died a day later at Jackson Memorial Hospital of massive blood loss. Fortunately,
his girlfriend and baby daughter, who were in the house at the time of the
shooting, were not hurt.
