Senator Ted Kennedy Hospitalized After A Seizure

Senator Edward “Ted” Kennedy was taken to the hospital on Saturday morning after suffering a seizure at his home. In a press statement, his spokeswoman said that the 76-year-old Democrat Senator is resting comfortably and a new update about his health status will be released in the next 48 hours.

According to The Boston Globe, Ted Kennedy, youngest brother of assassinated U.S. President John F. Kennedy, suffered one seizure at his Cape Cod home and a second seizure aboard the helicopter transport flight to Boston.

His spokesperson confirmed that he is hospitalized at Massachusetts General Hospital and he is undergoing a battery of tests to determine the cause of the seizure. He was initially treated at Cape Cod Hospital, but according to the hospital spokesman, Ted Kennedy spent less than an hour in the facility.

Ted Kennedy has been in the Senate for 45 years and unsuccessfully sought the centre-left Democratic nomination in 1980. He came to the Senate in November 1962 to fill a seat earlier held by his brother John Kennedy. Senator Ted Kennedy currently serves as chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions.

Kennedy voted against the Iraq war, and in 2003, Kennedy said of it: "There was no imminent threat. This was made up in Texas, announced in January to the Republican leadership that war was going to take place and was going to be good politically. This whole thing was a fraud."

Last year in October, Ted Kennedy underwent surgery to clear a dangerously blocked carotid artery in his neck. The surgery was decided after a routine health check. In 1964, he was seriously injured in a plane crash, and hospitalized for several months. Ever since he has suffered from back problems.

In January, Ted Kennedy expressed his support for his fellow Senator Barrack Obama for the White House.
