According to the daily estimates released by the tracking company Box Office Mojo, “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" is leading the Friday box office with $19,300,000 in ticket sales.

However, despite its good debut, “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" failed to surpass the first movie of the franchise "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe", which earned $23 million during its first day of availability.

The movie critics noted that Andrew Adamson’s movie, “Prince Caspian” surely has everything it takes to make a great war and fantasy movie, but lacks just the ingredients that made “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and Wardrobe” a special film of its kind: innocence, sacrifice and forgiveness.

“Prince Caspian” brings the four youngsters Peter (William Moseley), Susan (Anna Popplewell), Edmund (Skandar Keynes) and little Lucy (Georgie Henley) back to Narnia, this time being whisked directly to the magical world from a subway train platform, after they are given signs that they are needed there. Since leaving their crowns and weapons to return in contemporary London, it’s been a year in the quotidian world, but no less than 1,300 years have passed in Narnia.

To their great shock, the wonderland has undergone some deep, essential changes. The miraculous creatures of Narnia have moved away from their homes to live in the forest, as ruthless war-loving Telamarines occupied Narnia. In the same time, the place of young Prince Caspian on the throne is taken by his cruel uncle, Lord Miraz.

Caspian persuades the rightful residents of Narnia of the necessity to join their forces to fight against the Telamarines and Miraz; and in the meantime Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy reprise their weapons and regain their stamina to fight for the justice of Narnia.

However, “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" has another two days to prove if it is able to match the $65.6 million gained by “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and Wardrobe” in its first weekend.

“Iron Man”, which debuted last weekend, has gained the second spot in this Friday’s box office with $8,600,000. The movie earned so far $199,885,000 in its first 15 days of availability.

The romantic comedy “What happens in Vegas,” starring Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher earned the third place with $4,600,000 on Friday, after it gained with $20,000,000 in its release weekend.

Written by Dana Fox and directed by Tom Vaughan, the 99-long minutes comedy shares the story of two people who discover they’ve gotten married following a night of debauchery in Vegas, with one of them winning a jackpot after playing the other’s quarter. The pair tries to undermine each other and get their hands on the money, but they fall in love along the way.

Wachowski brothers’ “Speed Racer” continued its disappointing race and it earned only $2,000,000 on Friday. Based on the 1960s’ Japanese animation series “Mach GoGoGo,” which were initially inspired by a comic book of the genre and starring Emile Hirsch, John Goodman, Christina Ricci and Susan Sarandon,“Speed Racer” had its debut last weekend. The movie tells the story of Speed, a young man with quite a silly obsession: that of winning a cross-country rally, The Crucible, in the memory of his beloved brother, Rex Racer. Rounding up the top five, the romantic comedy “Made of Honor” gained $1,525,000 during Friday.
