Two friends, Jordan Houghton, 17, and Maxwell Zeigler, 20, were killed in a car accident early Sunday morning. According to Newsday, police informed that the car was on County Route 11 when it crashed into several trees. Authorities are questioning the public about the location of the boys before the accident.

Apparently Houghton overcorrected his car, a Toyota Yaris, when it veered off the south side of the roadway. That caused the car to get on the north side of the road, right into the trees.

Their death was pronounced right at the scene by Dr. Robert Kasulki of the Jefferson County Medical Examiner's Office, reported a local source.

Authorities believe that the pair had been drinking at a house party in Alexandria Bay. A TV station, reported that near the crash was also a maroon GMC Yukon or Sierra. Police are looking for the driver of the car to find out if the two accidents were related.

At the accident also came the Depauville, Clayton and LaFargeville fire departments, the Thousand Islands Emergency Rescue Service, and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.

Houghton was from Brownville and was a former Thousand Islands High School student. Zeigler was from Clayton and came from the same high school.

John E. Slattery, superintendent at the Thousand Islands High School said that students who are grieving will be offered counseling support.
