Pit Bulls Kill 7-year-old Texas Boy

A 7-year-old boy was mauled to death by two pit bulls. The child was playing outside his home in Breckenridge, Texas.

The corpse of the boy – identified as Tanner Joshua Monk – was spotted by a female driver next to a road near Hubbard Lake yesterday. The two dogs were near the boy’s dead body.
She got out of the car with the intention of checking out on the boy’s condition, but the pit bulls became aggressive. She decided to call 911.

The animals were shot and killed when they became aggressive toward the two deputies who arrived at the scene. The deputies found that Tanner was dead.

The 7-year-old was alone about 150 yards from his house and 50 to 75 yards from his neighbor's home. The two pit bulls belonged to the neighbors where the child was playing with his friends, Reeves told The Associated Press today.

Authorities said an autopsy on the boy’s body will be carried out. Some tests on the dogs that were gunned down by deputies will also be performed.

Although nobody was arrested yet, the evidence will be presented to a grand jury after the autopsy and the tests are completed.

Nobody saw what happened and foul play is not suspected Reeves said.

"We're handling this like we would any unattended death," he added.

A similar accident happened in Texas on Wednesday. A Fort Worth woman’s pit bulls attacked her 2-year-old niece. The woman tried to protect the little girl who suffered critical injuries. The woman was also badly hurt by the aggressive dogs, The Houston Chronicle reported.

The pit bulls were later euthanized by animal control officers.
