Indiana Jones to Break Box-Office Debut Record

After crowds of fans gathered Sunday at the Cannes Film Festival to watch the first screening of Steven Spielberg’s ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,’ it became clear that the movie is bound to become a box-office success.

The Thursday release, which is regarded by the producers as the real test the film must pass, is planned to take place over five days and screenings will be made in over 2000 locations.

This could make the latest Indiana Jones movie the best debut in recent years. ‘Spider-Man 3’, which is still regarded as the best box-office debut, managed to gather more than $150 million over three days, but ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’ is expected to do even better. During the next three days, the movie will be released in over 40 countries worldwide.

Harrison Ford, the lead star of the film, has recently declared for Reuters that he is not interested in reading the critics’ reviews of the movie.

Earlier these days, he also told the press that for him all that matters is the viewers' satisfaction, and not the critics'. If this is the case then Ford can rest assured. The audience loved the movie, and most of the critics considered it to be pretty good.

‘The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian’, was this weekend’s hit, raising $55 million and beating Iron Man’s $32 million. However, ‘Prince Caspian’ is most likely to lose its lead as this weekend will probably be Indy Weekend.
