Scientists Look For Undiscovered Bodies At Manson Refuge

Detectives and scientists are returning to the ranch where Charles Manson hid following a 1969 killing rampage, in order to search for yet undiscovered graves.

Manson took refuge at the ranch after murdering actress Sharon Tate and six other people in Los Feliz.

The investigations are scheduled to begin Tuesday and will be led by sheriff’s officials, who will be helped by specialists in soils that indicate grave sites.

According to the Associated Press, the expedition is supposed to last through Thursday, leading investigators into the Panamint Mountain range, within Death Valley National Park, where temperatures are expected to surpass 100 degrees.

For years, there were rumors about undiscovered Manson victims, such as hitchhikers who visited the ranch or runaways who had taken refuge at the location.

After a member of the so-called Manson family suggested that some bodies were buried at the Barker Ranch, investigators accompanied by cadaver-sniffing dogs started searching the site in February. The investigations revealed that graves could have been located in the area.

The National Park Service has closed the ranch to the public for the duration of the dig.

The detectives will use radars, magnetometers and mass spectrometers that can detect chemical markers of decomposing bodies.

Charles Manson is serving a life sentence at Corcoran State Prison for the murders he committed in 1969.
