Let’s Not Forget About The Actors In GTA IV

The actor who’s voice was used on the Grand Theft Auto IV’s Niko Bellic character is upset about the lack of residuals and royalties on his work over a 15 months time period.

According to Michael Hollick, the voice actor, his compensation came out to about $100,000 without any possibility for additional gains. The cause of his reaction is the massive $600 million revenue that the game has registered since its launch and also the popularity of his voice, now featured in several videos and trailers with millions of views over the internet each.

The New York Times presented some of Hollick’s thoughts on the matter, as he is very upset about the hundreds of millions of dollars earned by the company but at the same time is very thankful that Rockstar decided to offer him the opportunity to star in the game and make a name for himself. He added that at the time when his contract was negotiated, he was told that residuals were not a possibility.

Apparently, if he had been involved in any other similar activity such as a television program, a film, a radio show, an album with the same popularity and sales, he would have made millions by now.

There are also two different views on the issue. The actors consider essential to a game’s success the human performance which enables people to connect and grow fond of a certain character or game while the company’s officials claim that the sales are directly connected to the conception of the creative director, the acting talent having very little to do with a game’s success.
