Comcast's Site Quickly Recovered From Hacker Attack

Two anonymous hackers managed to affect thousands of people with their attack on Comcast’s web site Wednesday night. Their intrusion brought down the company’s website and its e-mail service, significantly slowing down the company’s high speed network and also denying subscribers the access to news and technical support.

The attack happened at about 10:30 p.m. and it involved the redirection of the Internet traffic from Comcast.com and its e-mail software to a third-party web site where the hackers bragged about their actions, replacing the main page with the text: “KRYOGENIKS EBK and DEFIANT RoXed COMCAST
sHouTz To VIRUS Warlock elul21 coll1er seven.”

The company’s officials assured its users that there is no proof that any customer information is compromised and the official police investigation continues. Even so, Chuck Smith of Wisconsin security firm LockNet Inc. suggested that Comcast’s customers should immediately change their e-mail passwords as a precaution.

According to the Associated Press, Comcast’s spokeswoman Jennifer Khoury explained that the hijacking was reversed in a matter of hours but some users may still experience difficulties accessing Comcast.net and its Web-based e-mail.

Comcast Corporation is the biggest cable television company and also the second largest Internet service provider in the United States and was founded back in 1963 and at this point the company enlists more than 14 million subscribers.

Such hacker attacks have become a big concern for many companies, and their efforts are focused on finding new ways to protect their customers and information.
