Prosecutors Bring New Evidence In R. Kelly’s Trial

The prosecution handling R. Kelly’s child pornography trial managed to find new evidence to aid its case, as a set of frame shots from the sex tape were presented yesterday by video forensics expert Grant Fredericks who pointed out the presence of a dark spot on the man’s back about the same size and in the same location as the artist’s.

In order to prove his point, the expert made a comparison in front of the jury using a photo with Kelly’s back taken at his arrest back in 2002, which clearly showed a dark coin sized mole.

"There is a mark on the man's back in the exact same position," Fredericks said, referring to the tape, according to the Associated Press. He also dismissed the defense’s claim about a digital manipulation of the tape, saying that it would take a professional about 44 years to digitally alter every frame of the video.

The mole was brought up in last week's discussions from a totally different point of view, when R. Kelly’s attorney argued that the singer’s birth mark does not appear on the 27-minute video tape and therefore the home-made film unquestionably features someone else.

Kelly has pleaded not guilty to all charges in the trial which started six years ago. The 41-year-old artist was charged in 2002 with 21 counts relating to child pornography. He was released on $750,000 bail and since then seven of those charges were dropped.

However, if prosecutors can prove the videotape features R. Kelly and an underage girl, the R&B superstar could get as many as 15 years in jail.
