Even though Time Warner has previously made public its
dislike of the fact that more and more networks make their shows available on
the Internet for free, it seems that the company has reached the conclusion
that this will actually be the future of this industry. And if things go like
this, why not be one of the pioneers and get a better market share.
All these being thought, Time Warner has announced that it
will release a device that will make streaming internet video content on one’s
TV much easier. The project takes the form of a wireless modem that is supposed
to link all the devices in a person’s household. The time when the device will
be made available has not been mentioned, but the company thinks that it will
take one to two years for the concept to become a popular one.
If Time Warner will make its plan a reality, it will join
and will compete with Apple or Netflix, who both introduced similar devices
already. Apple is on the market with its Apple TV device, while Netflix offers
some titles from its DVD collection through its own low-cost equipment
developed by newcomer company Roku.
Even though watching internet content on one’s TV could be
appealing to many, there are two problems that bother people. The technology
used now sometimes creates problems when internet content is viewed on TVs with
better resolution, and people have to give extra money for these devices, which
add to the fees they pay to cable operators.
