Amazon's 2-Hour Crash Means Millions of Lost Sales

Amazon.com crashed Friday, leaving clients of world's largest online retailer shocked. However, the company managed to quickly put up a message saying they are sorry that the service was unavailable while it was being fixed the the software engineers.

It is still unknown what caused the crash and whtether the company will elaborate on the issue. Their spokesman Craig Berman was tight lipped to those who asked about the incident, alleging the company's systems are very complex and despite their best efforts problems appear in rare circumstances.

Amazon.com sales run in the tens of thousands each minute, which means that two hours of blackout translate into millions os lost sales. However, they are probably only delayed sales as Amazon customers are likely to come back to the site after it was brought back online.

The problems lasted from 10:21 a.m. PDT to around 1 p.m. when everything was powered up again. Experts think that hacking was most probably not involved in bringing down the site, but rather a system glitch with either the databases or some other portion of the complicated network which runs behind the amazon.com front site.

Fortunately, the many businesses which depend on Amazon for their web services were unaffected by the outage, which only hit the company's retail website in the United States. International sites were also untouched.
