And The Canadian Grand Prix Title Goes To ... Robert Kubica!

After last year’s horrible crash on the Gilles Villenueve Circuit, Robert Kubica, competing for BMW, pulled off a triumphant come-back, winning Formula One’s Canadian Grand Prix.

The second place was taken by Nick Heidfeld and the third went to Red Bull’s David Coulthard.

According to the Kubica’s statement, presented by Agence France Presse, the driver was very happy with the result, thanking his team for providing such a good car and hoping to continue their excellent collaboration in order to keep championship’s lead. He also added that he considers this to be one of his greatest races ever, as he struggled like never before for himself, for his team, for his country and for his fans.

The last win recorded by a team other than McLaren and Ferrari came back in October 2006 so the result became even more satisfying.

Fernando Alonso, two-time former world-champion had to leave the race when during the 45th lap his Renault hit a wall after leaving its track.

Another factor which significantly helped Kubica was the defending race winner’s mishap. Lewis Hamilton lost control of his Mercedes McLaren and crashed into Raikkonen’s Ferrari, offering Kubica the chance to remove from his worries-list  two more important title contenders.

"I was comfortably in the lead, it was looking like an easy win. Then I went in for the pit stop. It was not a good stop and I saw the two guys in front of me battling in the pit lane, " said Hamilton, according to the AFP. He also added: "It was one of those things. It is different to if you crash into the wall and you are angry. It is not like that. I apologise to Kimi for ruining his race."

The 8th round of the 18-race championship, the French GP, will take place on the Magny Cours on June 22.
