Warren Griffin III, better known by his stage name Warren G, was reportedly put under arrest after a police officer found marijuana in the vehicle the rapper was driving.
The American West Coast rapper and producer was charged with drug possession. The 36-year-old rapper was pulled over in Hollywood early Sunday for a red light violation, but when the police officer checked out on him, he sensed the smell of marijuana coming out from Warren G’s car.
Officer Karen Smith searched the vehicle and found the forbidden substance. Warren G wasn’t driving, but the driver, Ryan Butler, 29, was also booked for investigation of possession of a controlled substance. They were both released after posting $20,000 bail.
The two were pulled over at about 1:40 a.m. for running a red light near Hollywood Boulevard and Wilcox Avenue, said Los Angeles Police Officer Sara Faden according to The Los Angeles Times.
Police found a large quantity of marijuana in the car, enough to charge the two bad boys for possession with intent to sell. However, the exact amount of marijuana found in the vehicle wasn’t released.
The rapper isn’t at his first run in with the law. In 1996, he was arrested for carrying a loaded assault weapon in his car.
Warren G, a rapper who grew up in Long Beach and took part in the emergence of G-funk rap, was nominated for a Grammy award in 1995. His most famous hits include "Regulate" and a hip-hop remake of Bob Marley song "I Shot the Sheriff."
