LucasArt’s Restructuring Leads To 100 Layoffs

LucasArts recently confirmed the rumors about the layoff of about 100 of its employees. The extreme measure is apparently linked to a restructuring strategy planned by the company but no further information about the firing process or procedure were offered.

Some rumors say that the company’s "product life cycle" – to which the firing process was linked – has a lot to do with LucasArt’s plan to open several offices overseas and handle their Production Services and many other departments from a cheaper location with a significantly lower salary plan.

The layoffs included the dismissal of two high profile executives: the producer of several games such as Lego Indiana Jones and Lego Star Wars, Shawn Storc and the VP of the company’s product development, Peter Hirschmann. A spokesperson for the company explained that Hirschmann’s departure was a mutual decision.

Even though the company’s officials did not want to discuss the specific reasons that led to their decision, they insisted on underlining the fact that the schedule of releases prepared for this year will not be affected in any way and the games’ developments continue according to plan.

According to GamePro, the company’s representatives also claimed to be extremely pleased and proud of this year’s games Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Fracture.

Until the rumors receive confirmation, besides what the company already admitted to, none of the news can be considered reliable. The validation can come from LucasArt or rather from the employees and ex-employees.
