Is Samsung's Smartphone Smarter Than The iPhone?

The announcement made by Samsung Electronics’ officials about the release of their new iPhone rival, the Omnia i900, comes after a careful analysis of the market’s movement and will surely benefit from the massive media interest in this week’s World Wide Developers’ Conference scheduled by Apple.

Samsung’s device offers a 3.2 inch touch screen, quad band operation and a HDSPA 7.2 Mbps internet access, truly living up to its name, which means ‘everything’ in Latin. It will support a wide range of video standards including DivX, XviD, H.263, H.264, Windows Media Video and MP4.

Another significantly important feature is the 5 megapixel built-in camera, which will offer face and smile detection. A set of additional features will be available, including an FM radio, integrated Wi-Fi, Bluetooth connectivity and GPS navigation.

There will be two available models, one with a 8 Giga Byte capacity and the second with a 16 Giga Byte volume. It will be encased in a ultra-slim stylish 12.5 mm metallic chassis.

The Omnia i900 will be mainly addressed for businessmen and it will run Windows Mobile 6.1, facilitating the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

The initial release planned for next week will first target South-East Asia and by July, Samsung will surely reach the European countries. At this point, the price is unknown but in order to be considered a worthy competition for the new iPhone, the price should be around $500.
