Di Caprio To Play 'Atari' Founder In New Movie

Paramount Pictures is planning a new biographical picture, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, about the life of video game mogul Nolan Bushnell, the founder of “Atari.”

The actor will not only star in the movie, but also produce it through his Appian Way production company.

The film, titled “Atari,” will tell the story of the rise and fall of the well-known game producing company.

Many have tried to obtain Bushnell’s life rights so they could make a biopic, but only Brian Hecker and Craig Sherman managed to convince the company founder they could make a movie worth seeing, based on his interesting life story.

Atari Inc. was founded in 1972 by Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney and was a path opener in the world of video games, making revolutionary changes in the domains of arcade games, home video game consoles and home computers. After releasing the world’s first successful video game, titled “Pong,” the company was estimated to be worth more than 2 billion dollars in 1982, but it was broken up after the US video game crash in 1984.

A few years after releasing “Pong,” Bushnell sold “Atari” to Warner Communications for $28 million. After the game market crash, the gaming pioneer decided to found the Chuck E. Cheese chain of restaurants. Before he went into the gaming industry, Bushnell was an engineering student who loved puzzles and games and used to fix pinball machines.

DiCaprio is currently involved in several projects including “Akira,” “Fleming,” “The Low Dwellers” and “Brave New World.”
