Harrison Ford to Play Doctor

Hollywood icon Harrison Ford will don a doctor’s robe in the drama “Crowley,” a film based on a true story which is to come via CBS Films, Variety reports.

Ford made a spectacular comeback last month, reprising his career-making role as Indiana Jones in the fourth installment of the adored franchise, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.”

Despite a nearly 2-decade break from swirling the leather whip and tilting the fedora, the veteran actor was welcomed with open arms by his loyal public, with fans and critics alike agreeing that his return was a winning one.

Ford will now portray the “maverick scientist” who helps the children of John and Aileen Crowley battle an extreme genetic disorder, reports Variety.

The actor will also serve as an executive producer for CBS Films. Tom Vaughn, who recently directed “What Happens in Vegas,” is in talks to helm the project, from a screenplay by Robert Nelson Jacobs (“The Water Horse,” “Chocolat”). The script was inspired by a Wall Street Journal article and Geeta Anand’s subsequent book, “The Cure.”

Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher (“World Trade Center”) are producing with Carla Shamberg. Shamberg and Sher have previously charmed audiences with another film based on a true story, “Erin Brockovich.”

John and Aileen Crowley fought against all odds to save their children’s lives, determined to do whatever it took, until finally they found the scientist to be portrayed by Ford, who had invented a potential cure.

“Crowley” is the first feature film of four to six pictures CBS Films plans to release annually, with a budget of nearly $50 million apiece.

Ford next appears on the big screen alongside Sean Penn and Ashley Judd in the immigration drama “Crossing Over.” The film is directed by Wayne Kramer, from a script he wrote himself. The cast also includes Jim Sturgess and Ray Liotta.
