Rapper-chef Coolio, real name Artis Leon Ivey Jr., was busted by Los Angeles police in Hollywood today for driving with a suspended license. He was nabbed after officers noticed he had expired license plates on his gray 1996 Hummer. He had also an outstanding traffic warrant on his name.
Coolio was later booked on an outstanding misdemeanor traffic warrant for driving with a suspended license, LA Times reports. He was released from jail on a $10,000 bond. TMZ found out that his dad, Artis Leon Ivey, Sr., a carpenter, was also caught driving on a suspended license in 2006.
Coolio rose to fame in 1995 with the release of his most successful album Gangsta's Paradise, which went four times Platinum and featured the mega hit Gangsta's Paradise and the popular party track Sumpin New. His subsequent albums were critically panned.
Now he is hosting an online cooking show, Cookin' with Coolio. His podcast is being distributed through the network MyDamnChannel. His show is produced by Dead Crow Pictures and Coolio alleges he tries to make "black food" healthier and more affordable for poor people.
Coolio has six children but has separated from his wife. He is 44.
