Almighty talk show host Oprah Winfrey is topping, for the second year straight, Forbes magazine's list of the world's most popular people.
The 2008 Forbes Celebrity 100 Power List released Wednesday finds media mogul Oprah, whose empire includes a blockbuster daytime talk show, a satellite radio show, a magazine and a production company (Harpo Films), on the No. 1 spot with $275 million she made just this past year. Besides the fame and money, the magazine recognized her constant influence on audiences worldwide.
Placing shortly behind the 54-year-old, on the second spot, is golf player Tiger Woods with less than half her earnings, $115 million, which makes him the highest-earning athlete around the world.
"It's not surprising that Oprah Winfrey and Tiger Woods remain at the top this year, they're certainly some of the biggest earners," Matthew Miller of Forbes magazine was quoted by Reuters as saying.
One of Hollywood's most talked-about couple, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, who have four children together and two more on the way, made their presence felt by seizing the third position and 10th respectively. Jolie, with only $14 million, secured her top ranking via massive web hits, in addition to other factors such as press clippings, TV/radion mentions and the times she graced the magazines' covers.
"Had (Jolie) made a couple of millions dollars more she probably would have been close to topping the list because the number of magazine covers that she was on, the number of stories she was mentioned in, far surpassed anyone else on the list," Miller said.
Fellow husband and wife pairings music stars Beyonce and Jay-Z bagged fourth and seventh respectively, while David Beckham cornered himself the fifth spot, 45 places higher than his Spice Girl wife, Victoria.
Actor Johnny Depp, who made $72 million last year, became the highest-ranked actor on the list, placing sixth.
"Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling was the year’s top earner, making $300 million with the help of her last installment of the Potter series, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."
Making her debut on the magazine's list is teen sensation Miley Cyrus, whose controversial, half naked appearance on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine almost overshadowed her successful acting and singing career.
Other newcomers include "The Hills" star Lauren Conrad, "Sex and the City's" Sarah Jessica Parker and "High School Musical" star, Zac Efron.
