After banking an unbelievable total of $275 million last year, Oprah Winfrey was designated by Forbes magazine the most powerful celebrity financially speaking.
Despite the fact that the ratings of her worldwide known talk show The Oprah Winfrey Show have slightly declined (7%) and circulation of her namesake magazine also fell (10%), the media mogul made the right moves and pursued other business ventures which pushed her success farther.
The highest-rated talk show in the history of television will most likely unveil The Oprah Winfrey Network in 2009. The 54-year-old talk-show host will collaborate with Discovery Communications on this new project.
The multiple-Emmy Award winner also reached a 3 year, $55 million deal with XM Radio and her Harpo production company had a great success with The Dr. Phil Show and The Rachael Ray Show to make Oprah the most powerful celebrity for the second year in a row.
Golf champion and living legend Tiger Woods grabbed the second spot with a total income of $115 million.
The third spot was granted to Hollywood's most glamorous actress and soon mother to be of twins - Angelina Jolie. Although she earned “only” $14 million last year, her No. 1 Web ranking thanks to the media frenzy about the impending birth of their twins, her activism and her movies Beowulf and A Mighty Heart completed a successful year for 33-year-old actress. Her husband earned $20 million in 2007, but ranked 10th.
Beyoncé Knowles clinched fourth place after she won $50 million in ticket sales and expanding her business in other fields such as fashion, film and publishing deals.
Los Angeles Galaxy superstar player David Beckham made it to the top 5, actor Johnny Depp was 6th and rapper Jay-Z 7th.
