Despite the bootlegging and the leaks of low-quality, Lil
Wayne’s new album managed to become a hot seller.
“Tha Carter III” debuted at No.1 on next week’s Billboard
200, with 423,000 copies sold in its first day of release, Nielsen SoundScan
reported.
This indicates that the singer is very likely to sell about
900,000 copies of the CD in its first week. If that will happen, the album
would become the best sales debut of the year. The record is currently held by
Mariah Carey, whose album “E=MC2” sold 463,000 copies in the month of April.
Last year’s record was seller was Kanye West’s “Graduation,” selling 957,000
copies.
“The Carter III” is the rapper’s sixth release. Wayne’s
first hit single in the UK and lead single on the album, “Lollipop,” has
maintained the first position in the top for five weeks.
Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” went up one position from the 3rd
place, becoming No.2, while Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding Love” dropped to No.3. The
fourth place is occupied by Katy Perry’s “I Kissed A Girl” and the fifth one by
Rihanna’s “Take A Bow.”
Other presences in the top include Usher's “Love in This
Club” featuring Young Jeezy, Jordin Sparks' “No Air” featuring Chris Brown,
Natasha Bedingfield's “Pocketful of Sunshine” and Madonna's "4
Minutes" featuring Justin Timberlake.
