MySpace Plans Major Revamping Soon

MySpace has announced that it will radically revamp its website next week in a push to keep users interested in the social networking site. MySpace said that it will change within days its home page, navigation, profile editing, search, and MySpaceTV player facilities.

It appears that the new design will promote a cleaner look of user profiles, as the editor will encourage users to edit themes conceived by the website's professional designers rather than doing themselves the design job from scratch, with the known awkward results. The terrible design of most user pages have deterred a significant portion of the adult population, which has inclined more towards the neater, more restrictive Facebook profiles.

MySpace plans to make the underlying changes Monday and overhaul the website's homepage Wednesday, probably in an attempt to prevent problems which may arise from completely changing the design at once.

The leading social networking site is trying to keep up with smaller rival Facebook, which gains powerful momentum abroad and threatens to equal in the future MySpace's user base, due to its unexpected growth fueled by international users.

The video player is being updated to the latest Flash 9 technology which will allow for HD and full-screen playback. The search engine borrows technology developed by the Lucene Open-Source engine and community, which is also the first time MySpace collaborates with the open-source community. The new search engine will allow users to fine-tune their searches in five categories: people, MySpace site, Web, Music, and MySpaceTV.

The homepage design will be launched, as mentioned above, on Wednesday, June 18. However, an advertiser will take over the design the next day.
