No Emmy, More Problems

If Katherine Heigl thinks she can refuse a potential Emmy by taking herself out of the race and get away with it, she’s wrong. This seems to be the thought that the writers and producers of the ABC hit “Grey’s Anatomy” share. Heigl’s remarks that her character, Dr. Isobel Stevens, known as Izzie, was not given proper material, making the actress unable to “warrant an Emmy nomination,” made the producers of “Grey’s Anatomy” a little bit mad. Ok, very mad.

According to the New York Times, it is possible that Heigl wants to leave the show. Apparently, this isn’t the first time that the actress didn’t share the same opinion with producers. In January, Heigl said to Vanity Fair that “Knocked Up” was “a little sexist,” adding that “it was hard for me to love the movie.” I bet she found the positive criticisms and the box office success easy to love.

The 29-year-old actress has other projects and, to be sure that they would be easy to love, she will also produce some of them. For example Heigl will appear in a movie which she also helped produce. The movie is based on the book “Escape” by Carolyn Jessop, a former member of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

This time she wanted to express her generosity by giving other actresses, who were given better material, the chance to win an Emmy Award.

“I did not want to potentially take away an opportunity from an actress who was given such materials,” said Heigl, according to The New York Times. While those actresses who were given another chance might be glad, the writers of the show could consider her statement as a criticism of their work. And they would be right in doing so.

On one hand, she criticized the creators of “Grey’s Anatomy,” saying they were more interested in the rating of the show, rather than being creative and, on the other hand, she has supported them in the recent strike.

In case she leaves the show, the effect on the series could be significant, causing the show to lose money.

Nominations for the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards are to be announced July 17, while the ceremony takes place on September 21.
