Luke Russert Talks about His Father, Tim

In a video for MSNBC that was posted online by people.com, Tim Russert’s son, Luke Russert, has shared a few thoughts and memories about his father and talked about how he and his mother are coping with the situation.

When asked how they feel about Tim Russert’s death, Luke said that he and his mother are hanging on, and that even though there is a difference in the way the two have loved his father, they are on the same boat.

He then went on to recall a few of the moments they have shared together, and he told a funny story according to which, after reading his father’s book ‘Big Russ and Me,’ Luke tattooed Tim Russert’s initials on him, thinking that this way he will always have his father close to him. Upon hearing this, Tim Russert seemed to have been so touched by what his son did, that he broke into tears.

Tim Russert has always been extremely proud about Luke, and he often went on telling his colleagues about what his son had been doing. One of the former TV host’s proudest moments has been the one in which Luke graduated from college.

Luke Russert also said a few words about the relationship his parents had, and about the wonderful discussions between them on politics and cultural life. He mentioned that his mother, a well established journalist herself, was always saying that she helped his father get to where he was, and that she had really been an inspiration for Tim.

Tim Russert passed away on June, 13. He had flown from Italy, where he was on holiday with his family, to the WRC-TV offices in order to record voiceovers for a TV show. Both his son and his wife were in Italy when he passed away.
