Al Gore Is All for Obama

Is seems that Barack Obama’s beliefs and policy managed to attract Al Gore’s support, too. The former Vice President said in his Monday speech that he backed Obama and he would help him win the U.S. presidential race.

According to Reuters, Gore said that America needed a change and a new vision. This was his first time when he appeared in front of a public to pledge his support for Obama. He also reminded people that elections ware very important, referring to 2000, when he had won the popular vote nationwide but lost the elections to George W. Bush.

“Take it from me, elections matter,” said Gore, adding that the result of this election “will affect the future of this planet,” reported the Boston Globe.

Although he kept his neutrality during the time when Obama and New York Sen. Hillary Clinton were trying to obtain their party’s nomination, now, he decided to give his full support to Obama, as the United States “got to have not only a new head of state but new vision for America's future,” said Gore.

The former Vice President is known for criticizing Bush and McCain policies, reminding of Bush’s decision to invade Iraq in 2003. Gore and Obama stated publicly their opinion regarding this decision, saying they were against that policy.

“After eight years of the worst, most serious foreign policy mistakes in the entire history of our nation, we need change,” Gore said, according to Reuters.

He also wrote a letter, asking his supporters to follow his lead and contribute to Obama’s campaign. He wrote that he intended “to do whatever I can to make sure (Obama) is elected president of the United States.”

Of course Obama thanked Gore for his support, saying “It means a lot obviously,” reported Reuters.

Al Gore is known for his documentary on global warming and its effects and for his many efforts to make people aware of the importance of this subject. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.
