Naomi Campbell Pleads Guilty in Airport Assault

British supermodel Naomi Campbell appeared in London court Friday and pleaded guilty to assaulting two police officers at Heathrow Airport back in April and now awaits sentencing.

Campbell made headlines a couple of months ago when her anger management problem resurfaced in public and she lashed out at two police officers in London’s Heathrow Airport.

The 38-year-old supermodel threw a fit in early April when she learned that one of her pieces of luggage was missing. She had already boarded a British Airways flight to Los Angeles to attend a memorial service and lost her temper upon learning of the incident.

The tantrum ended with Campbell being escorted off the flight and ultimately arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and placed in handcuffs. She was also held at the airport police station for several hours before being released on bail.

Friday, she pleaded guilty to four of the six charges she was facing, including assaulting two police officers and one public order offence. The Crown Prosecution Service decided not to pursue the other two charges.

Campbell must now remain in the Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court precinct to await sentencing, according to People. An unnamed source told the magazine that a report has been requested from the probation service prior to sentencing. “It is expected that she will be sentenced this afternoon,” the source added.

Crown Prosecution Service director Nazir Afzal said in a statement that Campbell was “aggressive, hostile and violent” towards people who “were simply trying to do their jobs.” He said her behavior “fell far short of what is acceptable.”

As a consequence, the supermodel now faces a possible jail term of up to six months and a fine of $10,000 for each assault charge.

This is hardly the first time Campbell has been in trouble with the law because of her temper but it does appear to be the most serious situation. Her previous faults have usually involved her staff – and a mobile phone.

She has paid for her mistakes too. Last year she attended court-ordered anger management classes and performed community service after pleading guilty to assault for throwing a cell phone at her housekeeper.
