Three Teens Caught after Florida Grocery Store Arson

Three teenagers who tried to set on fire the Sedano's Supermarket, at 7200 Southgate Blvd., in North Lauderdale, Florida, were arrested by the police. Their actions were caught on surveillance tape, which helped with the subsequent identification.

The three suspects have been taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center in Fort Lauderdale, where they are being held for the moment. They face arson charges and might be referred to the Juvenile Firestarters program, operated by the Fire Chiefs' Association of Broward County and managed by the Broward Sheriff's Fire Marshal's Bureau, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.

The group of three African American teens can be seen on surveillance tapes from the grocery store as they enter the building, sprinkle lighter fluid over the aisle which contained charcoal, lighter fluid and matches and then set the whole thing on fire before rushing out. Also, it appears that an ice cream vendor who was giving out free samples at the time of the incident has recalled seeing the three youngsters, who came by to get sorbet, possibly helping with the identification.

Sheriff Al Lamberti said that the three teens have "intentionally, knowingly, playing-starting fires" with the purpose of destruction and fun. He also said their disturbing behavior is part of a recent trend.
