Coast Guard Searches For Quincy Resident

A 60-year-old Quincy man was reported missing Tuesday night. The Coast Guard was searching for the man who participated at Boston Marathon this year, after he allegedly fell overboard. According to The Boston Globe, officials said that Anthony Tufo fell off the Nina Maria, a pleasure boat, when it was in the area of Deer Island.

Coast Guard Petty Officer Connie Terrell said that the 34-foot boat left from Deer Island around 6 p.m. Thursday, adding that a Coast Guard boat had found Anthony Tufo’s shoes. The other 6 people from the boat realized that man was missing and announced authorities.

The Coast Guard had two boats and a Jayhawk helicopter searching for Anthony Tufo but a powerful storm forced the aircraft to interrupt its search around 10 p.m. The search was expected to begin the next day. Connie Terrell said that officials also called off seven Fire Department divers who were searching for the man.

“The Coast Guard is still actively searching and plans to do so throughout the night. We will keep whatever we can out there as long as we can,” said Connie Terrell, according to The Boston Globe.

Boston police, State Police, Winthrop and Logan fire departments along with the Massachusetts Port Authority were working together in order to find Anthony Tufo.

Apparently Anthony Tufo finished the 2008 Boston Marathon in 4 hours and 23 minutes and he was reported to be in good physical shape. His family made no comment.
