The boy from Southern California, who was kidnapped by his father after the man shot his estranged wife, was found safe and sound in Mexico, in a church. According to the San Jose Mercury News, officials said that the 9-year-old boy was alone in a Mormon Church in Juarez, Mexico. Ryan Ramos was taken at the U.S. embassy in Juarez and was waiting to return to California, informed Orange County Sheriffs Department Lt. Kurt Vasentine.

The boy was doing fine and authorities were planning to reunite him with his mother. Gynnae Ramos was in a better condition but she was still at Mission Hospital.

“Ryan is in excellent condition. We are currently making plans to transport him back here to be with his mother,” said Lt. Kurt Vasentine.

Authorities were still searching for Lonnie Ramos, 46, who shot his ex- wife in the face on Wednesday. She went to pick up her son from Lonnie Ramos’ house, after a custody visit. Gynnae Ramos was critically hurt but her condition was said to have improved.

If he returns to the U.S. he will be charged with attempted murder and child abduction. The car which he rented was found near a border town and officials believe he is still in Mexico.

A witness said that he saw the two crossing the border by foot near Andrade, a small town about 5 miles west of Yuma, Ariz., and about 160 miles east of San Diego. Lonnie Ramos apparently tried to buy plane tickets for himself and Ryan Ramos, his son, but he wouldn’t offer any identification so he was unable to get the tickets, informed Orange County sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

Gynnae Ramos filed for divorce in 2003. Her relationship with Lonnie Ramos was very tense after the divorce.
