Friday’s devastating car crash, which killed co-pastor Betty
Wright and her 14-year-old grandson D.J. Wright, brought together hundreds of people
wanting to pay their respects at yesterday’s memorial service and also pray for
their pastor’s quick recovery.
The 58-year old woman was the wife of one of the most
beloved pastors in Brooklyn, Timothy Wright, who was also in the car and now struggles
for survival, in critical condition.
The tragic event happened on Friday on the eastbound
Interstate 80, where the car driven by the Wrights was completely smashed by a
wrong-way driver, 44-year old John Pick, who also had no chance of survival. At
the time of the accident, they were returning from a Church of God in Christ
conference held in Detroit.
In an effort to bring some comfort to the many people present
at the Grace Tabernacle Christian Center, Reverend Frank Williams said "We
honor the Lord for his goodness and his kindness. We say, in spite of
everything: God is still good," as quoted by the Associated Press. He
presented Timothy Wright, who is also the church’s founder, as an extremely
generous and careful person, who has had a huge impact on many people and who
now needs their prayers and positive thoughts in order to make a successful
recovery.
Timothy Wright is also known for his singing, as he was
nominated in 1994 at the Grammy Awards for best traditional soul gospel album
with his "Come Thou Almighty King." Besides his nominated piece, he
had at least 12 other gospel recordings released, each offering the beautiful
experience of gospel music.
