The 2.40 Firmware for PS3 to Be Re-Released by Wednesday

It seems that Wednesday is the day when Sony will re-release the firmware update that took down some consoles last week. The announcement was made through the company’s customer service, but an official Sony note is expected to appear sooner or later.

The new firmware update, which is called 2.41, will fix a series of problems of the 2.40 version that left some PlayStation 3 owners staring at a black screen and having nothing to do about it after they have updated their console’s firmware.

However, Sony has not made any official statements as to what these problems were, or how it was possible for the bug to affect only some consoles. Even though there have been reported cases of all versions (the 40 GB, the 60 GB and the 80 GB) to be affected by the update, the majority of users haven’t had any technical problems with it.

Because of these problems, Sony had to withdraw the update from its site, and said that it is working hard to fix it as soon as possible.

The PS3 firmware 2.40 update was supposed to allow users to play the music they wanted as any game’s soundtrack, as well as providing all kinds of music controls for it. The biggest update that Sony announced was the trophy system. Slightly inspired by the Xbox 360 console, Sony’s system awarded users with bronze, silver, and gold trophies, according to the gamer’s achievements while playing.

Users can still update their PS3 consoles to firmware 2.40, since it is still available on a number of sites, but Sony recommends patience, since the safer re-release is closer and closer.
