Will Smith has done it again. The star has managed to draw an incredible amount of people to see him star in ‘Hancock,’ despite what the critics have written about the movie. This marks Will Smith’s fifth number one July 4 opening, as well as his eighth consecutive film to make over $100 million.
The film takes a whole different approach to superhero movies, by presenting John Hancock, some sort of a Superman but facing a drinking problem, who is offered help by a publicist that thinks that by improving his image, he might improve the way the superhero is helping the world.
Dressed as a homeless and having a bad attitude and disliking children, it might seem pretty hard for a superhero to be liked by the audience. But these turn from problems into advantages, when you get Will Smith to play the character, or, to be honest, any character.
The actor, who is probably the biggest superstar of the planet at this point, seems to be able to get people to come to his movies, even if the film would be about him rocking in a chair all day long.
And if people could have thought that the success the actor enjoys is largely because all his movies are action-packed pop-corn ones, then they are wrong. ‘The pursuit of happiness’ drama in which the actor plays the role of a man trying to find work cashed in more than 300 millions globally.
My guess is that people are already looking forward for the next 4th of July weekend, with the traditional burgers and Will Smith movie.
