Nicole Kidman and husband Keith Urban welcomed their first
child Monday morning, a baby girl they have named Sunday Rose Kidman Urban.
Sunday Rose is the first biological child for Nicole Kidman
and Keith Urban. The actress already has two teenage children from her marriage
to Tom Cruise but they are both adopted.
The baby girl was born in Nashville, where the couple lives away from
the media frenzy and paparazzi.
Nicole Kidman’s publicist, Paul Freundlich, confirmed to
People magazine that Keith Urban “was by Nicole’s side, and mother and baby are
very well.” He added that the couple was “delighted” to share the happy news
with the world and that Sunday Rose weighed 6 lbs., 7.5 oz.
The couple first revealed they were expecting a baby in
January. Rumors had started again that Kidman and Urban, who at that time had
been married for a year and a half, were expecting a baby.
This time around, the actress’s camp did not deny the
reports, instead confirming to People that the couple was “thrilled” with the
baby news.
A close family friend told People that pregnancy has been a
period of bliss for the Academy Award winning actress. The friend said she has
never been “happier and healthier” and that this transfigured her, as she looks
“absolutely radiant.”
The same friend also said the couple had been taking delight
in “nesting and homemaking.”
Sunday Rose is the first child for Keith Urban, 40.
Nicole Kidman, 41, is mother to Isabella, 15, and Connor,
12, adopted during her 10-year marriage to Hollywood
superstar Tom Cruise.
Before becoming pregnant with Sunday Rose, Kidman had
courageously opened up about her desire to give birth, telling Vanity Fair for
its October 2007 edition that she had wanted to have babies from the very
beginning of her marriage to Cruise
She confessed that they “lost a baby early on, so that was
really very traumatic.” After which they adopted Isabella and Connor, in 1992
and 1995, respectively.
She also told Vanity Fair she had not given up on her dream,
that she was still “yearning” to have a baby and that she would be “very sad”
if she could not.
Happily for her, the dream has come true.
Kidman and country singer Keith Urban first met in 2005 at
an event honoring Australians. They wed in 2006 at the Cardinal Cerretti
Memorial Chapel in the grounds of St Patrick’s Estate, Manly in Sydney.
They went through a rough patch from the very beginning, as
Urban had a relapse and entered a rehabilitation facility. The coupler managed
to cope well with the situation though and Urban emerged a sensitive man, who
did not shy from expressing his gratitude for Nicole Kidman’s love and support
through the ordeal.
Urban posted a message on his website Monday, announcing, “Nic
gave birth to our beautiful baby girl, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban.” He thanked
everyone who “has kept us in their thoughts and prayers” and said he and Kidman
felt “very blessed and grateful” to share the joy with everyone.
