Former supermodel Christie Brinkley testified Monday in a
Long Island courtroom that she is a fitter parent for her children than
estranged husband Peter Cook, portraying herself as a doting mother who
nurtured her kids’ every need.
The first week of the divorce trial between Sports
Illustrated model Christie Brinkley and Hamptons
architect Peter Cook focused mainly on the latter’s infidelity, his
extramarital affair with his teenage assistant two years ago and his expensive
online porn habit.
Peter Cook admitted all these faults last week.
Round two of the divorce trial will center on the custody of
their two children: Jack, whom Cook has adopted, and Sailor, their child
together.
Christie Brinkley, 54, and Peter Cook, 49, married in 1996. The
supermodel filed for divorce a decade later after her husband’s unfaithfulness
became a tabloid scandal.
Brinkley also has daughter Alexa Ray Joel, 22, with singer
Billy Joel.
Both estranged spouses want custody of the two children.
Brinkley’s legal team insists she is the better parent – and she was inspired
Monday in court, remembering all sorts of occasions that demonstrated her good
parenting.
Cook’s team is emphasizing that the architect knows he has
done wrong, that he repents and that he loves his children very much.
Among instances that make her a very good mom are baking
birthday cakes herself, snowboarding with Jack and tap dancing with Sailor, supplying
heavily on disaster kits, organizing the gayest of Christmas parties and
allowing the kids to attend any kind of art classes they wished to, reports
Newsday.com.
Her second day on the witness saw Cook’s attorney reverse
that perfect image to insinuate that Brinkley was in fact a boss who
coordinated numerous employees to get things done.
During direct examination with her lawyer, Brinkley insisted
that hers is a household where the “mother” is present and that nannies are
“more like a mother’s helper.”
