Christopher Ciccone is now promoting his book about older
sister Madonna and he is more than eager to elaborate on tidbits from his
unauthorized memoir as well as to fuel the gossip concerning Madonna’s alleged
relationship with Alex Rodriguez.
Christopher Ciccone, two years Madonna’s junior, was on
ABC’s “Good Morning America” to promote his unauthorized biography of his older
and immensely famous sister, “Life with My Sister Madonna.”
He told host Deborah Roberts a number of things about the
perspective he has on his relationship with Madonna, why they drifted apart,
how she has incorporated Kabbalah into her life and whether or not she had
anything to do with the break-up between Alex and Cynthia Rodriguez.
Christopher Ciccone sounded bitter and disappointed Monday
on “Good Morning America” as he explained that a big part in his estrangement
from sister Madonna was Guy Ritchie’s doing. Ciccone is gay and he says Ritchie
is homophobic. “We both couldn’t exist in the same hemisphere,” he said.
This is a far cry from the close relationship he once had
with his older sister. Beginning with the mid 1980s, he worked for her on
tours, designing and directing her Girlie Show tour in 1993, working as
artistic director of her 1991 documentary, Madonna: Truth or Dare, and
generally assisting her.
In his book, which is released today, he also writes that
“the death knell” of their bond was sounded by Ritchie.
In “Life with My Sister Madonna” he also writes that she and
Guy Ritchie are “passionately committed” to staying married, with the help of
Kabbalah, a commitment he reiterated Monday on the show, saying Madonna is “not
the kind of person to walk away,” who will likely “do what’s best for the
family and her kids” and “do her best to maintain the marriage and keep it
going.”
As to rumors that she may have had a part in the break-up of
Yankees star Alex Rodriguez from wife of five years Cynthia Rodriguez, Ciccone
commented that while the slugger is Madonna’s “type,” she is still a “Catholic
girl” and he considers it “highly unlikely” that she had anything to do with
the marriage’s dissolution.
After venting some more of his frustration and jealousy,
Ciccone also remembered to emphasize that he is not seeking revenge on his
sister or brother-in-law. “I’m not taking revenge, not at all. I’m telling what
I consider to be a great tale.”
Without permission from the tale’s main characters, without
respect for their privacy and their feelings for that matter (for now he voices
critical opinions he kept to himself along the years).
Madonna and Guy Ritchie have been married for seven years
now and are parents to Lourdes, 11, Rocco, 7 and
2-year-old David Banda, whose adoption was approved by a Malawi judge
earlier this year.
The couple has been insistently reported to be splitting
over the past several weeks. Repeated denials from Madonna’s camp have not
slowed down the speculation.
In early July, Madonna personally denied having any
influence on Alex Rodriguez’s marriage or his spiritual beliefs, stating she
has “nothing to do with the state of his marriage or what spiritual path he may
choose to study.”
