Intel Centrino 2 - Big Things Come In Small Packages

Intel Corp. took another step into the future of laptops by unveiling its Intel Centrino 2 Processor -based notebook, an innovative notebook PC that combines powerful processors, with better graphics and improved battery life.

The Intel Centrino 2 processor technology, formerly known as Montevina, contribute to the laptop's performance and battery life via new processors and chipsets, faster draft 802.11n wireless and new business-class manageability capabilities, the company explained.

What this means is that now laptops will have the horsepower and battery life to watch a Blu-ray high-definition video on a single battery charge for the first time, as well as do a variety of other things at improved speeds.

In addition to that, users will get the best options for quality graphics and power saving, as the new Intel Centrino 2-based laptops allow them to switch between the two easier than ever before, the company explained.

Intel also revealed that later this year, Intel will begin shipping it's first ever combined WiMAX/Wi-Fi module, part of the Intel WiMAX/Wi-Fi Link 5050 series which is optional for Intel Centrino-based laptops.

The wireless technology WiMAX is a 4G broadband wireless technology that offers better Internet and phone voice coverage, and could cover entire cities, unlike the Wi-Fi technology we know. US will have WiMAX capabilities starting later this year.

In addition to all that, Intel also brought to light its Mobile Intel 45 Express Chipset and wireless Intel Wi-Fi Link 5000 series, which should arrive later in July or August, offering five-times the speed and twice the range of 802.11a/g technology.

As Mooly Eden, Intel corporate vice president explained, when Centrino was first introduced in 2003, things were different, as there were less Wi-Fi hot-spots, social media practically didn't exist and desktop PCs outsold notebooks by far. Now, notebook PCs have managed to outsell desktop PCs in the United States, and the demand today asks better HD experience and faster broadband wireless speeds, which Intel Centrino 2 can provide.
