After establishing a Guiness World Record with the release
of their Firefox 3 browser, now Mozilla Labs is starting a new, more ambitious
project. Since the release of the first details about Firefox 3, many have wondered
what more a browser could do than it does already.
But apparently, there is still room for a lot of
improvements and Mozilla is turning again to its users to learn what they wish,
need or even dream about the perfect browser.
Introduced on Mozilla’s Blog, the
Concept Series intends to become a place where people from around the world
can share their ideas or opinions about the future of web technologies.
As Mozilla noted, anyone can send an idea, a mockup or even
a prototype about how the future browser should look.
Mozilla has already presented three initiatives: the Aurora
Concept, the Bookmarking & History Concept and the Mobile Concept.
Each video offers some interesting ideas and insights on how
a future browser should work and how people will use the unleashed power of web
technologies, but Aurora
is stealing the show.
It is hard to sum up the seven minutes videos in just a few
phrases, so maybe it’s better to watch them for yourself here and post your thoughts about
the ideas presented.
However, Mozilla’s decision to involve the people in the
creation of their new browser is an interesting marketing move and, on the
other hand, could generate a lot of good suggestions.
In a world in which the tech trend is shifting from PCs to
the online services, having a lot of people involved in building a new browser
could make the difference. Especially since Mozilla is fighting against
Internet Explorer.
However, it remains to be seen what the future will bring
from and for The Concept Series.
