Singer Jewel and her boyfriend of over ten years, rodeo star Ty Murry, took off together to the Bahamas where they tied the knot in a wedding that came as a complete surprise.

"I dreamt about this day since I was a little girl on a ranch in Alaska," Jewel said in a statement for E!Online.

"Jewel is thrilled! It was so romantic," a source told Usmagazine.com. "She looked beautiful! Her dress is gorgeous, the ring is gorgeous. They can't be happier!"

The two who never announced their engagement officially, exchanged vows in a beachside ceremony. Jewel wore "a traditional wedding gown," while Ty wore "his favorite blue jeans, white shirt and cowboy hat," the singer's rep told People. "The couple is very happy and look forward to enjoying their honeymoon."

Jewel excitedly announced on her official website that she was heading to the Bahamas for six days with a couple of friends.

"Ty and I have a 6 day vacation and we are going with our good friends…Now that Nashville Star is wrapped up, and the Brad [Paisley] tour is on a mini-break, I have a few days to get away, and I'm ready!" the singer wrote.

The 34-year-old singer said in an interview last year that she does not "know if there's a point" to marriage, arguing that her relationship lasted longer than some of her friends who got married and divorced.

"Ty's been so supportive and steady," Jewel told Redbook in 2006. "I always say he's a stand-up guy in a world of flakes.
"He's very direct, very straightforward," she added. "You never have to guess with him. And that reliability is really comforting. Especially for somebody as capricious as myself."

When they're not performing for their fans, the two entertainers share a 2,200 acre ranch in Stephenville, Texas. Speaking recently at a charity event, the singer said marriage is something that "needs to be taken seriously."

Calling her relationship with Ty "really special," Jewel did say in the past she would probably get married if she had kids.

Born in Utah and raised on a ranch in Homer, Alaska, Jewel achieved fame in the mid-1990s with such pop-folk tunes as "Who Will Save Your Soul" and "Foolish Games." She is best known as a multi-platinum pop singer, but she recently made the crossover into country music. Her first country CD, "Perfectly Clear," came out on June 3. It is currently number 15 on the Billboard country music charts after a debut at number one.

Murray, a seven-time winner of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association's All-Around world champtionship, hosted the CMT reality series "Ty Murray's Celebrity Bull Riding Challenge" in August last year. He recently starred in the music video for Jewel's new single, the aptly titled "I Do." Jewel is said to be working on a new acoustic album due next year.
