'Wild Hogs'; Races To The Top Of The Box Office

“Wild Hogs” stars an ensemble cast of John Travolta, Tim Allen, Martin Lawrence and William H. Macy, a group of passionate biker wannabes. Movie-goers paid $38 million to see the comedy, which proves to be Disney’s best March opener and the largest- debut for Travolta, as well as the best non-animated movie debut for Allen.

“Zodiac” takes second place, with $13.1 million dollars in sales. The thriller about the serial killer of the same name who operated in San Francisco in the late 1960s, early 1970s, sent taunting letters to the media and was never caught stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo and Robert Downey Jr.

Last week’s chart-topper, “Ghost Rider,” took in 11.5 million dollars, slipping to number 3. The action movie stars comic books–lover Nicolas Cage, Peter Fonda and Eva Mendez. “Ghost Rider” was the biggest opening of Cage’s career, earning a reported $44.5 million during its first three days of release, putting it on course to break the record for the Presidents Day holiday weekend, distributor Columbia Pictures said.

Another Disney film, the childhood fantasy “Bridge to Terabithia,” came in fourth with $8.6 million, while New Line's thriller “The Number 23,” starring Jim Carrey and Virginia Madsen, was fifth with 7.1 million dollars. Eddie Murphy’s “Norbit” dropped from last week’s fifth place to sixth this week raking in $6.4 million. “Music and Lyrics,” a romantic comedy starring Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant gathered $4.9 million, taking seventh place. Rounding out the top 10 were “Black Snake Moan” at $4 million, “Reno 911!” at $3.8 million and “Breach” with $3.5 million.
