Kate and Leo: 10 Years Later

They made ‘titanic’ history in 1997 as ill-fated lovers and now, Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio reunite once more.

As Jack and Rose, the two actors charmed the world, as clearly shown by the buckets of tears cried in theaters all over the planet and by the $1.85 billion “Titanic” has earned since 1997.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet are teaming up again on the big screen. The two artists will play in “Revolutionary Road,” which is based Ricard Yates' 1961 novel, according to Variety.

This will be director Sam Mendes’ first cinematographic collaboration with Kate, his wife since 2003. Mendes is the acclaimed director of movies such as “American Beauty” and “Road To Perdition.”

The tale, set in the mid 1950s, is one of love lost in an apparently happily married couple, April and Frank Wheeler. The couple and their two children move to suburban Connecticut, where they are confronted with the pressures of conforming.

The screenplay is by Justin Haythe who last wrote “The Clearing” which starred Robert Redford and Helen Mirren. Oscar-winning Mendes (American Beauty”), who is also one of the Dreamworks film's producers, will begin shooting in mid-year.

Both his lead actors are Academy Awards nominees themselves. Leonardo has been nominated for his roles in 1993’s “What's Eating Gilbert Grape” (when he was a mere 18 years old), 2004’s “The Aviator” and 2006’s “Blood Diamond.”

Kate has been nominated five times: “Sense and Sensibility” (1995), “Titanic” (1997), “Iris” (2001), “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” (2004) and “Little Children” (2006).

It appears DiCaprio became involved with the project after his “Titanic” co-star mentioned it to him when they bumped into each other during the recent awards season. Matt Damon was previously linked to “Revolutionary Road” but his full schedule would have delayed filming to late 2008.

The last time Kate and Leo got together, the movie turned out to be one of the biggest of all times. Wouldn’t it be nice if “Revolutionary Road” brings some Oscars?... “Titanic” is one weighty legacy though.
