A Bit of Marijuana Taboo

One little vehicle collision and then, oopsie, you’re world famous for possession of marijuana (and in trouble with the police).

This is what happened to Black Eyed Peas singer Taboo on Tuesday morning. First he was stopped by police on suspicion of driving under the influence after crashing his car in Los Angeles.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Taboo, real name Jaime Luis Gomez, was involved in a minor collision in Industry, a town 20 miles east of Los Angeles.

Deputies from the Industry station talked to Gomez, 31, and then detained him. A search of his vehicle turned up marijuana and medicine that did not have a required prescription, authorities said.

The singer was booked on suspicion of possessing less than an ounce of marijuana, having a prescribed medication without a prescription and driving under the influence. All are misdemeanors, officials said.

Gomez was released several hours later after posting $5,000 bail. Quite unfortunate, Taboo. At least no one was hurt in the collision.

Jaime Luis Gomez has been a member of the Black Eyed Peas since 1996. he and fellow rappers apl.de.ap and will.i.am first functioned as a trio, releasing two records, “Behind the Front” and “Bridging the Gap.”

Singer Fergie joined later, and the band became a huge success. “Elephunk” and “Monkey Business” have made the four artists world famous. “Monkey Business” sold almost 10 million copies worldwide. The Black Eyed Peas have sold over 20 million albums and singles worldwide.

While Fergie has been dabbling in a solo career with great results (debut solo album, “The Dutchess”), she has been specific about the fact that she will not leave the group.

The Black Eyed Peas have won three Grammy awards, in three consecutive years: 2005’s “Let's Get It Started,” 2006’s “Don't Phunk With My Heart” and 2007’s “My Humps.”
