In the women championship, Amelie Mauresmo suffered another disappointment in front of the Czech Lucia Safarova.  Mauresmo held 3-0 leads in the both sets but could not maintain. "It was close and could have gone either way," said the reigning Wimbledon champion. "There were a lot of long rallies, I"m very disappointed. "I had the lead in both sets but just couldn't do it at the end."

"I just try to loosen it up as the match goes on. I've made it pretty clear that doctors have given me the Ok to play through, even though it doesn't feel 100 percent healthy. You're always going to have aches and pains somewhere, especially on clay courts - it's normal.”
