Concert for Diana, A Happy Celebration

Concert for Diana was a great success as tens of thousands gathered to celebrate the late Princess Diana’s life and spirit.

The event was organized by her two sons, Princes Harry and William, and featured artists Diana enjoyed during her lifetime. Harry, 22, and William, 25, welcomed the 63,000 fans at London’s Wembley Stadium: “Hello Wembley! This is about all our mother loved in life - her music, her dances, her charities, her family and friends.”

Elton John was the very first to perform and he was followed by pop veterans Duran Duran. Other acts, favorites of the princess’s and of her sons’, were Tom Jones, Rod Stewart, Bryan Ferry, Nelly Furtado, a reunited Take That, Joss Stone, Lily Allen, Status Quo, Kanye West and P Diddy.

“We only wanted you to have a great time and to enjoy the stars on stage,” prince Harry said, who also greeted his comrades in Iraq. “I wish I was with you. I'm sorry I can't be. To all those who are out there right now both of us say: take care.”

Throughout the show, there were clips of celebrities talking about Princess Diana. Prince William also said July1, the day of the concert, would have been his mom’s 46th birthday. Princess Diana lost her life in 1997 after a terrible car crash in Paris.

Over 500 million people around the world watched the concert broadcast on television. Nearly 15 million British citizens watched on TV.
