Former vice president Al Gore’s 24-year0old son, Al Gore III, was arrested in Orange County on Wednesday, on suspicion of possessing marijuana pills.

The young son of former vice president Al Gore was pulled over Wednesday morning by police in Laguna Hills, California, for speeding. A spokesperson for the Orange County Sheriff's Department said Al Gore III was driving more than 160 kilometers per hour.

The police officer who stopped Gore smelled marijuana, which prompted him to conduct a search. He found marijuana and prescription drugs for which the young man did not have a prescription (Vicodin, Valium, Xanax and Adderall).

Gore was taken into custody and booked into Orange County Jail on four charges, including possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and possession of drugs without a prescription.

The 24-year-old was released on $20,000 bail some 12 hours later. Al Gore III is the only son of Al and Tipper Gore. He has been arrested before on suspicion of possessing marijuana, in 2003.

Luckily, or perhaps ironically, the younger Gore minds about the environment. When he was arrested Wednesday, he was driving a Toyota Prius, a car popular among environmentalists for its non-polluting qualities. His father has become a dedicated global warming activist, winning an Academy Award in 2006 for his documentary “An Inconvenient Truth.”
