Brazil Advances In Copa America Quarters; US Eliminated

Despite being defeated by Mexico with 3-0, Brazil managed to advance in Copa America’s quarterfinals, after they  beat Ecuador by 1-0 on Wednesday in Puerto La Cruz.

The only goal of the match was scored by Brazilian striker Robinho in the 53rd minute, after he was brought down in the box by Ecuadorian Espinoza.

In the quarterfinals, Brazil will play again against Chile, after they met in last week's first-round game. As a result of Brazil’s qualification, the US team is eliminated even they has one more match to play against Colombia. The United States lost its first two matches against Argentina and Paraguay by a combined score of 7-2.

"It will be harder than the first game," Brazilian coach Carlos Dunga said in a press conference. "All play-off games are harder."

Chile also advances in the quarterfinals after a 0-0 draw against Mexico. "Everyone has to look after their things and looks for what's best for them," said Chilean coach Nelson Acosta. "I don't think anyone in Chile would have been happy if we had played well but we had lost."

In the quarterfinals, Mexico will play against the loser of Thursday's game between Paraguay and Argentina

"It really is the same for us if it is one or the other. If it is fate, we will just prepare for whatever rival we get. I think the team is improving and we are ready to face anyone," Mexican coach Sanchez said.

In this moment, the final quarterfinal lineup is:

July 7 Venezuela vs Uruguay

July 7 Chile vs Brazil

July 8 Mexico vs Paraguay/Argentina

July 8 Paraguay/Argentina vs Peru
