Bethesda Preps Elder Scrolls: Oblivion GOTY Edition

Bethesda’s insanely popular Elder Scrolls: Oblivion is getting its Game of the Year Edition this fall, which will include all major platforms and expansion packs released until now.

While PC and Xbox 360 owners have had the chance of playing Oblivion with its two downloadable/retail expansion packs (Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles), PlayStation 3 owners are only getting their hands on the two add-ons with this GOTY Edition.

In addition, this retail release will make both expansions available for the first time to those Xbox 360 users who have been either unwilling or unable to access the content through the console's Xbox Live Marketplace. A Bethesda community manager, responding to queries on the official forum, said we'd have to "stay tuned" for news on whether the Game of the Year Edition also included all the other downloadable content released to date through Xbox Live Marketplace and OblivionDownloads.com.

The PS3 version of ES: Oblivion GOTY will have improved frame rate, faster loading times and greater draw distances.

While offing considerable content on its own, Shivering Isles features more than 30 hours of new gameplay and allows you to explore an entirely new plane of Oblivion – the realm of Sheogorath, the Daedric Prince of Madness. In addition, Knights of the Nine introduces a new faction and a collection of new quests and powerful relics.

Overall, Elder Scrolls: Oblivion sold more than 3 million copies for Xbox 360 and PC in 2006. According to NPD sales figures, Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion had become the fastest selling Xbox 360 title last year, in North America. In addition, the PC version accounted for 13% of all Windows games sold during Oblivion's first week of release — more than four times the percentage of the next best selling game.
