Rapper Busta Rhymes who is accused of attacking two men, driving drunk and driving with a suspended license, will face a series of four trials after prosecutors lost a bid on Tuesday to consolidate all the cases against the performer into a single case, pleasing defense attorney Scott Leemon, Reuters reported.
"The two assault cases cannot be consolidated," Rhymes' lawyer, Scott Leemon said.
"The decision by the court validates what we submitted in our papers detailing the defense we have to these assault cases. We detailed to the court that we have defense to these cases and the court agreed" the lawyer was quoted by E! Online as saying.
"The jury will get to try each case on the facts and not going to be looking things that are irrelevant," he added.
No explanation has been made public for the judge’s decision in order to protect defense arguments from leaking.
Since last summer, the 34-year-old Grammy-winning rapper has been arrested four times for reportedly punching a fan for spitting on his car after a concert last year, on suspicion of assaulting his personal driver who reportedly asked for his paycheck earlier, for drunk driving and for driving without a license.
