Isaiah Washington Grateful for Second Chance

Isaiah Washington, notoriously fired from “Gray’s Anatomy” for his anti-gay slur, will soon be seen in a new NBC drama called “Bionic Woman.”

Isaiah Washington told The Associated Press that his second chance, given to him by NBC, is a great opportunity he did not expect. “I'm humbled by this opportunity,” Washington told the AP Monday.

“Bionic Woman” will feature the 43-year-old Washington in a string of five episodes. Washington and NBC Universal Studios are also reportedly developing an action series.

The actor is eager to act again, after the unpopular phase he’s been going through due to the anti-gay slur on ABC’s “Gray’s Anatomy” show. He told the AP it was “an unfortunate misunderstanding for everyone” that he wants to leave behind.

“What I always wanted to put at the forefront is my creativity, that thing I want to do, which is act,” Washington said.

Ben Silverman, the new co-chairman of NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios, is placing faith in Washington and greatly values his acting skills.

“`Gosh, it would great to get him, get a great actor on our air,'” is what Silverman says he thought when he heard Washington had been fired by ABC. “It's like A-Rod leaving the Yankees in midseason.”

“I really thought about him as an actor. I feel like he's a wonderful actor and everyone deserves a second chance,” Silverman told the AP.

“Bionic Woman” is based on the television series “The Bionic Woman,” that aired in the late 1970s. The show, starring Michelle Ryan and Miguel Ferrer will be released in September.

According to NBC, Washington will play “a mysterious person who is brought into the enigmatic scientific organization” responsible for creating the show’s main character, bionic woman bionic Jamie Sommers (Ryan).
