A representative for the Australian actress has put an end to all the Internet rumors claiming she signed a deal to play Narcissa Malfoy (Draco Malfoy’s mother) in the sixth installment of the Harry Potter franchise.
A lot of reports emerged online recently claiming Naomi Watts is tipped to join the cast for the next Potter film, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince."
However, MTV reported that spokespeople for Watts, Joseph Fiennes and Irish actor Stuart Townsend (who were also said to play parts in the movie) all denied rumors that they would star in the sixth film of the series.
"Not true," Watts’ rep said. "These reports are not true," echoed officials for Joseph Fiennes. "Not true" was also stated by Townsend’s reps.
It is very much understandable why all the reports popped. According to Cinematical, Narcissa Malfoy is described as a tall, slim, pale, blue-eyed blonde and Naomi Watts just looks like a perfect match.
Narcissa Malfoy made her first appearance in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," the book, but failed to make it to the big screen. In the sixth book she visits Severus Snape and swears him to an "Unbreakable Vow," ensuring he will protect Draco during his task assigned by Lord Voldemort, and should her son fail, complete his mission for the Dark Lord. She plays a role in the final book, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," as well.
British actor Joseph Fiennes, the brother of Ralph Fiennes, was said to play Tom Riddle, Sr. while Charlize Theron’s actor boyfriend, Stuart Townsend, was tipped to play Bill Weasley.
"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," which will be directed by David Yates is in pre-production now with a November 21, 2008 release planned.
